Bellshill Local Outcome Improvement Plan highlights
Contents
Local organisations offering support within the Bellshill community
The project was to increase awareness of local organisations offering support within the community. This is part of tackling poverty and mental health, which is a priority for Bellshill.
What were the initiatives?
- Tackling poverty & food insecurity – Bellshill Community Fridge
- Local activities & warm spaces – Building Bonds for families and Chitter not Chatter in Fallside (VIP)
- Safety and security over Christmas
- Alcohol and substance supports
- Mental health and general wellbeing at Christmas
- Domestic abuse supports
How did the project come about?
The subgroup submitted an application for Community Empowerment Funding and was successful in an award of £5,000. Part of the plan for that fund was to establish warm spaces in the locality of Bellshill, including Viewpark, raise awareness of local supports, targeting specific areas of Bellshill and Viewpark highlighted by the LOIP.
With the support of the funding, we booked a community venue in the Fallside and Orbiston areas. The NHS Health Improvement team, VIP, and Police Scotland volunteers teamed up to collate the information into information packs. They took to the streets to deliver the packs to 500 doors in Fallside and Orbiston.
What was the outcome?
The intended outcome is that more people in the Bellshill area are more informed about the local support available to them and that we see increased engagement with these organisations.
