Clay Crescent multi-use games area
The upgrade of red blaze pitch to Clay Crescent multi-use games area (MUGA) is an example of community participation, which is a priority for Bellshill.
How did the project come about?
The project proposer and a local elected member contacted the Community Partnership team for assistance in improving and upgrading an existing play area.
Consultation was carried out with 18 children from St Gerard’s Primary School who live on Clay Crescent and 6 children from Noble Primary School on the Pupil Council.
A survey was created and shared with residents of Clay Crescent and surrounding streets.
What was the outcome?
Children from both schools were very excited to discuss the possibility of a new MUGA. Children discussed what games they would play and also offered suggestions of some additional items that would work alongside the new MUGA including storage for bikes and benches/seating.
The overwhelming majority of residents believed that this would benefit the local community by providing children with a safe environment and focal point for play and sports, increasing wellbeing, and providing children with a new space to socialise.
