Councillors
Councillors carry out a range of different duties and responsibilities:
- representing constituents in their ward
- making decisions in meetings of the council and its committees
- reviewing and monitoring the performance of council services
- facilitating public involvement in local decision making
- developing and reviewing council policy
- setting the council’s budget
- carrying out a regulatory role, for example, in relation to licensing and planning matters
- representing the council on other bodies
