The roles and responsibilities of Leader of the Council, The Provost, councillors and committee conveners.

Leader of the Council

The responsibilities of the Leader of the Council extend to responsibility for the vision, policies, strategies and consequent decisions of the whole council.

The Leader of the Council is Councillor Jim Logue and the Depute Leader is Councillor Louise Roarty. 

The Provost

The Provost is the civic head of the council and also chairs meetings of the full council.

The Provost is Councillor Kenny Duffy and the Depute Provost is Councillor Bob Burgess. As civic head, the Provost meets with visitors and dignitaries to the area and represents the council and the people of North Lanarkshire at all kinds of events.

Councillors

Councillors carry out a range of different duties and responsibilities. Find your local councillor.

Committee conveners

As well as carrying out their roles as individual members of the council, committee conveners have added responsibility for the services overseen by the committee that they chair.

The convener has additional duties to their role as members of the council. Find a convener.
