Cumbernauld town centre regeneration
Contents
Next Steps
The redevelopment of Cumbernauld town centre is a major regeneration project - the largest of its kind in North Lanarkshire. This means that it is a long-term development that will deliver positive transformative change for the Cumbernauld community.
Although our plans involve the complete replacement of The Centre with a new town centre including the proposed development of a town hub with education, health, community and leisure facilities, public transport improvements and a modern bespoke retail and commercial offer, we can’t simply knock down the centre tomorrow.
Lots of businesses still currently trade from the centre, including many with lease agreements extending well into the future. We must also plan the regeneration of the centre in a sensitive manner, helping where possible, to sustain and retain businesses within Cumbernauld.
The regeneration of Cumbernauld town centre is a long-term project and it is anticipated that it will take 8-10 years to complete the demolition of The Centre Cumbernauld. During that time The Centre will continue to be operational, although some businesses may be offered the opportunity to re-locate within the centre to support the two-stage demolition strategy.
The table below sets out some of the key milestones we expect to achieve over the next decade in relation to this project. This page will be updated regularly in line with developments.
