Kilsyth and Villages Local Outcome Improvement Plan Highlights

Youth Engagement Event at Kilsyth Academy

Following on from our consultation with young people at the end of December 2023, the LOIP Youth Engagement subgroup and the Kilsyth Community Alcohol Partnership worked together to organise and plan a youth engagement event to further engage with young people across Kilsyth and Villages Community Board area.

How did the project come about?

The event took place at Kilsyth Academy on Friday 31 May 2024 between 1pm – 3pm and was aimed at young people who attend Future Friday activities within St Maurice’s High School and Kilsyth Academy.

Flyers were used to publicise the event and were prepared by the Community Partnership Team. These were circulated to parents and carers through the schools' social media channels.

Activities provided included BMX Biking provided by Social Track, a local graffiti artist, street football, Police quad bikes, drug awareness activities, and food stalls were provided by Police Scotland. Health Improvement and Cornerstone had interactive games around smoking cessation, Fire and Rescue brought along a fire safety appliance and drunk goggles, Community Learning and Development brought along Duke of Edinburgh experiences and the Community Partnership Team provided free period products in line with the Period Dignity Project.

What was the outcome?

The event was well attended with approximately 60-80 young people with an even balance of males and females taking part on the day. Feedback from young people was positive with everyone engaging well with partners and in the range of activities that were provided.

The next step is to target young people from St. Maurice’s High School and a similar event will be held in March 2025 to engage with the children from Kilsyth and surrounding villages who attend this school.
