North Lanarkshire Public Wi-Fi will be available in schools, libraries, leisure centres, Community Centres and Hubs, town centres, Retirement Housing Complexes and public-facing corporate buildings. 

The service will roll out in stages starting in August 2024 and completing by December 2024.  

To connect to our free public Wi-Fi: 

• turn on Wi-Fi in your laptop, tablet or mobile device settings 
• look for "North Lanarkshire Public Wi-Fi" in your list of available networks 
• select North Lanarkshire Public Wi-Fi and wait for the pop-up window to appear. 
• if it's your first time accessing, enter your email address, first name and second name, review and accept the terms and conditions and click the ‘Start Browsing’ button. 
• If you are a returning user, accept the terms and conditions and click ‘Start Browsing’. 

There is no contract to sign, no email verification required, and we will not ask you for payment details when logging on or using the service. 

No, your name and email address are retained only to allow reuse of the service for up to three months from last use.  

The session will last for as long as you continue to access and use the internet. The link to the Public Wi-Fi will drop after a period of inactivity (approximately 20 mins) to free up the service for other users. 

If you wish to reconnect to the Public Wi-Fi after this time, go to your network settings, re-establish the connection, accept the terms and conditions and click ‘Start Browsing’.  

Your registration will remain active for up to three months from the last time you used the Public Wi-Fi service. 

If you are within three months from your last use of the service, the system will remember your registration, if you are using the same device, and you will not have to re-enter your details. To re-connect go to your network settings, choose North Lanarkshire Public Wi-Fi, confirm acceptance of the terms and conditions and click ‘Start Browsing’. 

If you return more than three months since you last used the service, you will need to renew your registration by entering your email address, first name and second name and follow the steps listed above.

Your registration details are retained solely for the purpose of allowing use of the Public Wi-Fi service.  

The system will remember your registration for up to three months from your last use before it expires. If you reuse the system during that three-month period, the clock will reset on when your registration expires.   

If you receive a system error message reset your access to the Public Wi-Fi service.  

This can be done by going to your device network settings and disconnecting and then reconnecting the North Lanarkshire Public Wi-Fi SSID. You may have to re-enter your login details and/or accept the service terms and conditions to reconnect.  

The coverage provided in town centres can be impacted by the fabric (materials used in the construction) of the buildings that impact the wireless signal carrying the Public Wi-Fi service. This is the same for 4G mobile signals that are impacted in the same way.
