Community food growing and allotments
Allotments
Sites
There are 12 allotment sites across North Lanarkshire on council-owned or land leased by us. There are also two sites on privately owned land. There are approximately 466 spaces dedicated to food growing across all sites including traditional allotments plots of various sizes, raised beds and space allocated within polytunnels.
The overall running and management of each site is carried out by an allotment group or local community group. They handle all the administration for the site including allocating plots, maintaining a waiting list, and collecting annual fees from plot holders.
Each site will have a set of regulations and plot holders agree to follow these when they take on a space in the allotments.
We are currently developing a standard set of rules and regulations for all sites on council-owned or land leased by us. Having a standard document will ensure that all plot holders are being treated in the same way and that allotment groups are following council regulations which aim to introduce good practice in equality, diversity, and human rights. For more information see our Equality Strategy.
The majority of the allotments will have a waiting list and you may have to wait sometime until a plot becomes available. Many of the allotment groups have a Facebook page and you can contact them directly. Alternatively, if you are interested in joining a waiting list for any of the sites, please contact us at Greenspace@northlan.gov.uk
We do not maintain a waiting list but can give you contact details for the specific sites you are interested in.
