How to request a review
Council Tax Reduction is a reduction on your council tax that you may be entitled to if you are on a low income.
If you are unhappy with the decision made on your application, you can request a review provided it is done within two months of the original decision. This must be done in writing. A review of your eligibility for Council Tax Reduction will consider the amount of income you have along with the amount that a person needs to live on (their applicable amount), this will vary depending on the circumstances of the individual and their dependent(s).
The request must state the reasons why you think the decision is incorrect. We must consider the request and reply with our decision in writing within two months. Your request for a review should be sent to:
North Lanarkshire Council
Revenue and E-Government Solutions
PO Box 9060
Motherwell ML1 1SH.
Requesting a review
You must write to us to request a review. We will consider the request and reply within two months.
Further review
If you are unhappy with the decision, you can seek an independent ruling from the Local Taxation Chamber which will conduct a further review.
A further review by the panel can only be requested after we have carried out an internal review.
The only exception to this is if you do not receive a written response from us within two months of your request. If this happen you, or your representative, can request in writing an independent ruling from the Local Taxation Chamber.
The Local Taxation Chamber is an independent body which is an addition to the Scottish Tribunals Service, providing an additional service to safeguard individual's rights to administrative justice when assessing an individual's eligibility for Council Tax Reduction. They will consider the facts presented to them and give an independent ruling as to whether the decision made by North Lanarkshire Council is correct or not.
