Next steps

The conference was brought to a close with remarks from the co-chairs, expressing their commitment on behalf of the council to continue the work. The conference is only the beginning of something which requires a sustained and inclusive effort if the consequences of racism are to be overcome.

Councillor Brannan-McVey then thanked everyone for their participation and brought the conference to a close.

  • build on the conference by having more events and workshops that bring people together;
  • education- primary and secondary and in communities to raise awareness;
  • employment – increase diversity in the workforce and in teacher recruitment; and
  • engagement – continue the research and establish a wider BLM working group to involve community representatives.
