City Deal projects along the A8/M8

New roundabout at Orchard Farm

Improving access to the road network for new businesses.

What will the project do?

The City Deal Orchard Farm Roundabout Project involves a funding contribution towards the development of a new junction on the A8 for heavy goods vehicles, light commercial vehicles and cars to:

  • Mossend International Rail freight Park and Mossend Railhead
  • Former Shanks and McEwan site
  • Carnbroe business development

The roundabout will enable new industrial development at these locations.

Land released for development by the roundabout

This project relies on PD Stirling Ltd delivering the Mossend International Railfreight Park. This has Planning Permission in Principle.

The Orchard Farm Roundabout secured planning permission in January 2020.

You can view all the information associated with this through our online planning system using the reference numbers 19/00002/FUL.

What's happening next?

Our next steps are to work with the project partners to agree how the roundabout will be built and the timescale.

What have we done?

At the end of August 2022, the Outline Business Case for the A8/M8 Corridor Access Improvements project was approved by Glasgow City Region City Deal Cabinet.

This is a key stage in making sure the City Deal is provided for the project.

Our expected timetable

Action Timescale
Approval of Outline Business Case by GCR City Deal Cabinet August 2022
Funding agreement in place March 2025
Approval of Full Business Case by GCR City Deal Cabinet April 2025
Start roundabout work May 2025
Finish roundabout work Summer 2026
