Work on the next phase of an active travel route along the A73 Carlisle Road, Airdrie will start on Friday 16 February.

In partnership with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), we have recently completed the first phase of the route at Craigneuk Avenue.

The second phase, between Willow Drive and Carlisle Road, will create a path through Craigneuk Park and widen the existing path on the east side of Carlisle Road to create a shared use path for walking, wheeling and cycling. This will improve connections to schools and bus stops in this area.

The work also includes:

  • utility protection works, tree removal and planting;
  • new street lighting, drainage, and landscaping; and
  • new toucan crossing infrastructure on Carlisle Road.

During the work, traffic will be managed using a variation of stop and go traffic management and temporary traffic signals, which will be manually controlled between 7.00am and 7.00pm. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and road users.

The work is expected to be complete by the end of April.
