It marks the 65th development to start on site and forms part of our ambitious new supply programme which aims to deliver 5,000 new homes by 2035, regenerating our communities and town centres, creating jobs and boosting the local economy. 

McTaggart Construction is delivering the 26 new homes which are made up of 2 x 2-bedroom semi- detached; 2 x 3-bedroom semi-detached; 2 x 2-bedroom cottage flats; 2 x 2-bedroom cottage flats (wheelchair accessible) and 18 2-bedroom flats (amenity). 

All our new homes are designed and built to the highest standard and are highly energy efficient as we’re embracing renewable technologies and building greener. They’re designed for varying needs, meaning they adapt over time to suit tenants’ needs and are secure by design. 

Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake said: “We are making significant progress in delivering our new council homes, with last year being our most successful yet. This latest sod cutting marks the first of 2025 and I’m confident we’ll continue to build on this. 

 “We have several exciting housing projects underway across North Lanarkshire helping us transform local communities, improving the lives of local people and delivering economic opportunities. We’re delivering first-class homes that will meet the needs of our residents now and for generations to come.”  

Attending the event were local councillors Jim Reddin, Beth Baudo and Helena Gray, together with representatives from North Lanarkshire Council and McTaggart Construction.

Projects like these are not only important for the local economy but are vital to meet the growing demand for modern affordable housing and ensuring homes are adaptable for current and future needs.”  

The development, which costs £5.3m, is expected to be completed by spring 2026. It’s supported by a Scottish Government grant funding contribution of £2.832m
