To support people who are worried about loneliness and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, we have launched a 'Winter Well' guide - a comprehensive self-help booklet which provides practical tips and advice to combat the challenges associated with the winter season.
The guide addresses the impact that elements of the winter season can contribute to poor mental health, offering support for individuals experiencing anxiety, low mood, or depression during the festive period. Produced in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire, the 'Winter Well' booklet aims to help individuals manage difficult circumstances such as debt, stress, and loneliness.
Louise Roarty, Depute Leader said: "The festive period and winter months can be very stressful for some people, especially for those who may suffer from poor mental health or financial worries and for people feeling lonely."
"If you're worried about someone, asking them directly about their feelings can make such a difference. Our 'Winter Well' guide provides practical advice for people who may need it, and hopefully, it will help alleviate some of the stress during the holiday period for those feeling under pressure."
The booklet includes contact details for emergency services, financial and benefits helplines, stress control advice and domestic abuse support.
Local sports centres, hospitals and health centres will have copies of the booklet for members of the public to collect, or it can be downloaded on the council website.
