A 7.5 tonne weight restriction will be implemented on the bridge over the rail line on the B803 Sunnyside Road in Coatbridge.

Network Rail, which owns and maintains the bridge, have requested the restriction because its deteriorating condition means it is no longer suitable for heavy vehicles.

The weight restriction will help to limit further deterioration of the bridge and allow it to be used by most vehicles.

The weight restriction is expected to be introduced from 8 April. From that date, vehicles weighing over 7.5 tonnes will not be allowed to cross the bridge.

The diversion for heavy vehicles is a five-mile route via Glenmavis.

Network Rail intends to replace the bridge. However, this will take at least two years so the weight restriction will remain in place until then.

Network Rail are sending letters to businesses in the surrounding area to inform them of the weight restriction and diversion.
