The North Lanarkshire Children's Panel is appealing for dedicated volunteers to join efforts in supporting vulnerable young people by becoming panel members.
This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people by using your listening skills and compassion to help shape their futures.
Volunteers will receive comprehensive training before sitting on their first panel and are supported by Children's Hearings Scotland (CHS) experts, including local volunteer area support teams, throughout their time on the panel. If you are over 18 and eager to make a meaningful difference in your community, we encourage you to apply now.
Mark Hamill, Democratic Manager explained: “Being a part of the Children’s Panel can be incredibly rewarding for those who volunteer. You don’t have to have any specific knowledge or qualification, what we really need is people from diverse backgrounds who can bring their own unique skills, judgement and experiences to the panel.
"We’re looking for people who genuinely care about young people and our communities. Volunteers should have a range of life experiences, strong listening skills, the ability to assess evidence and be able to people at ease. Every decision made by a panel member can significantly impact a young person's life and help set them on a positive path for the future."
At each hearing, three panel members work together to make important legal decisions that directly affect the lives of infants, children and young people. The role of a panel member is to ensure that the young person remains at the heart of every decision made, providing them with the best possible support and guidance.
