Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life in Coatbridge is looking forward to hosting "The Artful Codgers", a remarkable free exhibition showcasing the artistic talents of three extraordinary Scottish friends who have each achieved greatness in their respective fields.

The exhibition, running from 30 March to 9 June, 2025, features the works of award-winning artist Jim Scullion alongside his friends - acclaimed actor and director Tony Roper and Scottish football legend Danny McGrain. This unique collection offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the lives and extraordinary careers of these three talented individuals who have been united by their love of football, creative passion, and enduring friendship.

Provost Kenneth Duffy toured the exhibition prior to its opening alongside the artists, Communities Convener Geraldine Woods, and Councillor Alex McVey, Convener of Enterprise.

Jim Scullion, a two-time European Sports Artist of the Year who has exhibited worldwide, explained: "I'm incredibly proud of this exhibition and what we've accomplished together. I am from Coatbridge, and I haven't exhibited in the town for over 39 years, so I am delighted to bring this unique exhibition to my hometown.

“Working with such talented friends has been an exceptional experience. What began as casual creative sessions at Celtic Park has blossomed into something truly special that we're excited to share with the public."

The three friends have been meeting weekly at Celtic Park whenever possible to draw and paint together, with Scullion sharing his expertise with Roper and McGrain. This exhibition marks the first time their collective work has been displayed publicly.

Provost Duffy said: "We're incredibly fortunate to host this exceptional exhibition that showcases not only the artistic talents of three remarkable individuals, but also celebrates the power of friendship and creativity.

“'The Artful Codgers' offers our community a unique opportunity to experience these personal works from individuals who have made such significant contributions to Scottish culture and sport. I encourage everyone to visit this free exhibition and be inspired by the artistic journey of Jim Scullion, Tony Roper and Danny McGrain."

The talented trio will be donating selected pieces to be auctioned following the exhibition, with proceeds benefiting the Celtic FC Foundation.

"The Artful Codgers" exhibition is free to attend and opens to the public on Sunday 30 March, with the artists themselves in attendance. The exhibition will be open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm until Monday 9 June, 2025.
