Thorniewood by-election result

Scottish Labour Party candidate Helen Loughran has been elected to serve as an elected member in Ward 14 Thorniewood of North Lanarkshire Council, following a by-election on Thursday 04 March.

The number of first preference votes polled for each candidate was:

  • Oyebola Ajala, Scottish Conservative and Unionist – 212
  • Joseph Budd, Independent - 518
  • Eve Cunnington, Scottish National Party (SNP) – 944
  • Daryl Gardner, UKIP - 15
  • Helen Loughran, Scottish Labour Party – 998
  • Rosemary McGowan, Scottish Green Party – 53

Total of first preference votes: 2,740

The percentage poll was 25.4% and the electoral quota was 1,371.

29 ballot papers were rejected.

Des Murray, Returning Officer, said: “I would like to congratulate Helen on her election, and I look forward to seeing her at the next council meeting.”
