It was a successful return for our annual Tenants’ Conference, with tenants telling us it was great being part of an in-person event which lived up to its theme of ‘Connecting Communities’.

Over 100 attendees from across North Lanarkshire gathered at Airdrie Academy to discuss key topics, including the cost-of-living crisis, our supply of new council homes and home energy. With many enjoying the popular marketplace stalls packed with useful information and advisors on hand to provide advice and giveaways.

Convener of Housing, Councillor Heather Brannan-McVey, welcomed guests to the conference She said: “It was great to be able to come together and talk face-to-face about some of the key issues facing people and our communities right now.

“Our annual conference always presents a great opportunity for council staff, tenants and residents and a range of partners to come together and highlight our housing plans and services, and for us to hear from our tenants about their experiences. I’d like to thank everyone who came along and hope they enjoyed the event. I’m looking forward to seeing even more tenants take part in the range of opportunities and events our team has planned for next year.

“And once again, thanks to the tenant participation team for delivering such an excellent conference.”

There are lots of ways you can get involved in tenant participation activities.

One of this year’s highlights was the conversation café which brought people together and encouraged those attending to speak with others. First time attendee, Julie McDonald, had a great time at the conference. She added: “It’s wonderful being here and I felt like a real part of the community. It’s been 10 years since I moved to Coatbridge and I heard about the conference from my involvement in the garden awards earlier this year. It has been a great event and I’ve loved getting to meet people from all over North Lanarkshire. I’ll definitely be back and I’d encourage others to take part too!”

Jim Leonard, Chair of North Lanarkshire Federation, added: “What a fabulous event to take part in, particularly the Making a Difference Awards. People and projects like that really show how much good work goes on in local communities and they deserve to be celebrated. I hope everyone who attended it enjoyed it as much as me and takes the chance to get more involved in other events and opportunities.”
