A service offering support to the military community, veterans and their families is available in Lanarkshire.
Lanarkshire Firm Base was created in partnership with North and South Lanarkshire Council’s following a request by the Royal Regiment of Scotland for an Armed Forces Covenant to be established.
The organisation is the lead for delivering the key commitments contained in both councils’ Armed Forces Community Covenants to ensure that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
Firm Base was established by the Ministry of Defence to develop the delivery of policy and funding to support the military community and veterans in Scotland.
And website and handbook have been created to signpost relevant information and contact details to support the military community and veterans.
North Lanarkshire Council’s Veterans’ Champion, Councillor David Cullen, said: “We are all committed to improving the lives of our veterans and military communities here in Lanarkshire and giving them all the support and guidance they need to be able to access services.
“Since the Lanarkshire Firm Base was established, we meet three times a year to to support active and ex-servicemen, women and their families in our area.
“It is vital members of the Armed Forces community have the same access to government and commercial services and products as any other citizen.
“This website and handbook provides a resource for people to access advice and information and I am delighted it is now available.”
