Provost Jean Jones said: “Along with the rest of our country, I am appalled at this baseless invasion on Ukraine and our thoughts are firmly with the people who live there whose fear and uncertainty for their future must be acutely palpable.  

“I hope the good people of Ukraine are able to withstand the horror of this despicable assault on their country and come through what are and will be incredibly difficult times.

“The people of North Lanarkshire are united in condemning the unprovoked military operations and we all have the people of Ukraine thoroughly in our hearts.”
