To help celebrate Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week, pupils from St. Maurice’s High School enjoyed an action-packed Active Girls Day on Friday 6 October.
S1 and S3 girls from the Cumbernauld-based high school took part in a range of physical activities and sports. S1 pupils participated in activities within the PE department, while S3 pupils visited Broadwood Stadium for an exciting selection of sports and activities.
The event was made possible through the hard work of S6 Community Sport Leadership pupils from the school. These pupils, supported by HNC Sports students from New College Lanarkshire's Broadwood Campus, planned and organised activities including basketball, football, badminton, fitness, and cycling.
The young people also got to participate in BMX riding, fitness, tennis, and rugby supported by North Lanarkshire Council’s Sport Development team and Cumbernauld Rugby Club.
Miss James, Acting Principal Teacher of PE at St. Maurice’s High School, said: "The day was a tremendous success in showcasing the school and local community sport and physical activity provision. The girls were encouraged to try new activities and recognise the importance of being more active, more often.
“The girls had an immensely enjoyable and fun-filled experience and I would like to extend our thanks to Lee McParland, the Active Schools Coordinator, for her help in coordinating events with the council, New College Lanarkshire and the Cumbernauld Rugby Club.”
