Four-time snooker world champion John Higgins is calling on football fans to head to Broadwood Stadium to cheer on Scotland along with thousands of other supporters in what could be a crunch match on Sunday 23 June.
The Cumbernauld ground is hosting two unique Fan Zone events as part of the 2024 UEFA European championships, which are being held in Germany this summer.
The first event against the host nation on Friday 14 June has been sold out after all 4,000 tickets were snapped up, but tickets are still available for the Hungary game which could see Scotland make it through to the final stages of a major tournament for the first time.
North Lanarkshire’s John Higgins MBE, who was at Broadwood to promote the event, believes the team has every chance of making it through.
“I really think that they can do it this year, the players have shown tremendous spirit and you can tell that they enjoy playing for each other,” said the Wishaw Wizard who won the snooker world championship in 1998, 2007, 2009, 2011.
“The event at Broadwood sounds fantastic and – apart from being over in Germany – I can’t think of a better way to watch the games with friends and family.
“I think there will be an amazing atmosphere inside the stadium – let’s hope that this year is our year!”
All the activities take place on the pitch and supporters can watch the games on one country’s biggest LED screens and savor the atmosphere along with live entertainment, a variety of food and drink providers, and a family zone packed with fun things to do.
Higgins was joined at the promotion by Provost Kenneth Duffy, who added: “The Big Game at Broadwood Stadium promises to be an event to remember, whether you're a die-hard sports fan or just looking for a fun day out,
“It’s such a great venue and the perfect place for people to come together for this exciting event, with fun for the whole family.”
Twenty-four teams are participating in this year’s Euro Championships and Scotland are in a group along with Germany, Switzerland and Hungary.
