Provost Kenneth Duffy visited local businesses in North Lanarkshire as part of a drive to promote Small Business Saturday (SBS) on 2 December.

He congratulated Coatbridge-based Lucky Orchid Flowers on being named flower shop of the year at the Scottish Business Awards and sampled some of the delicious produce available from Bakers Oven of Newarthill.

The campaign aims to assist small businesses in maximising their potential during the peak shopping season.

Small Business Saturday is a nationwide initiative celebrating local independent businesses, including traders and retailers that contribute to the unique character of our high streets, town centres, and villages.

Provost Duffy highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses during the Christmas period.

“Small businesses across North Lanarkshire do so much to support and enhance the character of our area and I’d like to encourage our residents to give their backing to our high streets throughout the festive season and think about shopping locally for their gifts,” he said.

Small Business Saturday is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign that is free and open to all small firms.

Many businesses participate by hosting events, offering promotions, and collaborating with other local establishments.

While the official day is the first Saturday of December, the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses.
