The second stage of public consultation on a new housing area at Palacerigg, Cumbernauld is open.

Feedback from the first consultation in February has been incorporated into the proposals, where possible, for the future development of the land, which is part of the South Cumbernauld Community Growth Area.

An online survey is available on our web site until 26 April, and a drop-in event will be held at the Muirfield Centre on Thursday 30 March from 1.00pm to 8.00pm.

The consultation and events are being organised by consultants Barton Willmore, now Stantec, on behalf of the council.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed to our first consultation and gave us valuable feedback on the plans for this site,” said Councillor Heather Brannan-McVey, Convener of the Housing Committee.

“We have used that information to develop further the vision for Palacerigg to deliver practical proposals which will provide quality housing. As part of the future planning application an Environmental Impact Assessment will be undertaken considering education, transport and leisure to ensure a comprehensive approach.

“I would encourage residents and businesses to participate in the second stage of our consultation and have your say on the future of this important site.”

South Cumbernauld CGA includes two areas of land planned for housing, Palacerigg and Mid Forest, which will be developed in planned phases over a number of years. Planning permission in principle was granted for 600 homes on the Mid Forest site in August 2019, and the council is working with a developer on details for the first phase of 300 homes on that site.

The Palacerigg site covers around 85 hectares and sits to the east of Lenziemill. The boundaries are Lenziemill Road to the north west and west, and the Luggie Water to the south. To the east there are agricultural fields and tree belts, with Cumbernauld Model Flying Club and Palacerigg Country Park to the north east. The site is in close proximity to the country park and designs for the area will aim to encourage links between the housing area and the park.

A Strategic Development Framework and Concept Statement for South Cumbernauld which provide the detailed information required to develop the area are available at South Cumbernauld Community Growth Area.
