Recover NL support funding has been used by the Bellshill Community Council to help clear up and improve areas of the town.
The council fund supports projects which will help maintain and improve common areas and green spaces by provided a range of equipment and materials to support local groups who volunteer to keep communities clean and tidy.
The Bellshill Community Council organised a clean-up and litter pick on Saturday 30 October with other projects planned in the coming weeks and months.
Councillor Angela Campbell, Convener of Community Empowerment said: “I was delighted to take part and support the efforts of the hard-working volunteers. Litter makes such a mess of our parks and open spaces and is a blight in our towns and for the environment. The Recover NL fund is there to help community groups and organisations to improve our areas.”
Gillian Frew, Bellshill Community Council’s Vice-Chair said: “We have been working on plans to carry out a wider "Make Bellshill Beautiful" campaign which was kick started by our litter pick day. We very much wish to look after the area in which we live and to take care of the environment. We appreciated the great support offered by our volunteers, including those from the Clay Crescent residents and our local elected members in this successful litter pick day.
“We were also grateful for the support from the council in providing litter pickers, bin bags, gloves and to pick up and dispose of the rubbish collected and in helping to make the campaign day a success.”
