A rowan tree from the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022 has been planted at the site of the new Chryston Community Hub.
The new hub received one of only 350 trees that formed part of a living sculpture outside Buckingham Palace.
The “Tree of Trees” was a sculpture designed by Thomas Heatherwick as part of the Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations.
The 21-metre living sculpture, made up of 350 British-grown trees, put the importance of trees and nature at the heart of the historic milestone to celebrate The late Queen.
At the conclusion of the Jubilee celebrations in 2022, the trees were carefully stored at Barchams Nursery ahead of distribution at the start of the planting season.
The trees in their special pots embossed with Queen Elizabeth II’s cypher were to be gifted to community groups across the nation to celebrate their work and inspire the next generation of tree planters.
Lady Haughey (Susan) CBE, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, planted the tree at the new hub, she said: “It was an honour to choose the new community hub in Chryston to become a recipient of a tree from the ‘Tree of Trees’ sculpture.
“The tree is a beacon of hope and serves to wish pupils and the wider community our very best wishes for the future in their wonderful new home.”
Lady Haughey was joined by pupils from Chryston Primary School to celebrate the occasion.
Pupils and staff are set to move into the new building later this month. The Chryston Community Hub is a replacement building for the existing Chryston Primary School and includes a new Community Health Clinic. It is a partnership project between North Lanarkshire Council and NHS Lanarkshire.
