A new community hub will be created in Shotts after the project received a grant of £790,000 from the Scottish Government.

The council and Getting Better Together – Shotts successfully applied for the funding from the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.

The money will be used to create the hub at the former Springhill Community Centre. It will allow services for local people and community groups to continue, including play groups, leisure classes and a senior citizens group.

“The successful grant application for a new Springhill Community Hub is very positive news for Shotts, as it will give many local groups a high quality new facility to meet in,” said David Greer, Growth Programme Manager.

“Getting Better Together – Shotts took over the running of the hall from the council in 2017 to redevelop the facility, then bought the hall and land in 2019. We are pleased to have been able to support them to secure the grant and take forward this valuable project for the local community.”

June Vallance, Executive Manager of Getting Better Together Ltd, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the Scottish Government Regeneration Capital Funding has been approved and want to thank North Lanarkshire Council for supporting the bid.

“This new facility will enhance the delivery of many new community programmes and linked services and it will also provide the focus for many new outdoor programmes.”

Work is expected to start on the building in September, with the work to be complete in June 2022.

This year the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund has awarded £24.1 million to 26 new projects in disadvantaged and remote communities around Scotland to support regeneration and employment projects. It is delivered annually in partnership between the Scottish Government and COSLA.
