Councillor Kenneth Duffy, Provost of North Lanarkshire, has expressed his thanks and gratitude to local groups, volunteers, and emergency services for their dedication to supporting vulnerable members of the community throughout the year.

In his Christmas message, the Provost said: "It’s an incredible honour to represent North Lanarkshire, and I’d like to offer my best wishes to everyone over the Christmas season."

He visited the Pet Pantry in Cumbernauld to highlight the great work being done by so many voluntary organisations in the area.

The organisation supplies pet food to food banks and voluntary groups in the Cumbernauld area. They work closely with businesses and schools in the area and other voluntary organisations such as Cumbernauld Resilience.

He said: “Groups such as Pet Pantry and Cumbernauld Resilience and so many others work tirelessly to make such a positive impact on individual people, families and communities.

“I never fail to be inspired by the commitment, effort and sheer willingness of people across North Lanarkshire to help others in need.

Among the year’s milestones, the Provost highlighted the opening of new community hubs and the construction of hundreds of new homes.

In March, he officially opened the Riverbank Community Hub, which he praised as an exceptional facility that will benefit generations of young learners.

Work will soon begin on new community hubs in Bargeddie, Coatbridge, Gartcosh and Chryston.

More recently, he took part in the official opening of the new Heathery Park Family Learning Centre in Wishaw.

“I’d like to put on record my deep appreciation for those working over the festive period, including emergency services, NHS staff, the military, council employees, and charity volunteers.

"The festive period can be difficult for many people, especially during these challenging times. I encourage everyone to look out for friends, neighbours, and vulnerable people in our communities," he urged.

"Once again, I would like to extend my best wishes to everyone in North Lanarkshire and hope you have a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year."
