Our communities are benefiting from millions of pounds of investment as we roll out exciting local projects, working alongside communities, to improve the lives of our residents.
Hundreds of projects have already been delivered as part of our Local Development Programme (LDP) across the nine Community Board areas. These include community safety measures, such as new street lighting and CCTV cameras; renewed and improved play areas and new multi-use games areas providing facilities for local people and environmental improvements such as nature walkways and paths.
In Bellshill and Motherwell, we’ve plans to invest over £2 million in the next five years. From the outset, community groups and elected members are involved in deciding how to use money to improve facilities that bring the most benefit to their areas.
Bellshill has benefited from a range of projects: such as parking at Napier Square, Simpson Way and Thankerton Avenue; Juniper Road play area; installation of CCTV; improvements to war memorials at Holytown and Bellshill and a new play area at Braehead Drive.
And in Motherwell, a new community MUGA has been delivered in Newarthill (Grounds of Brannock High School Loanhead Road); community safety CCTV installed; new entrance feature at Carfin; Newarthill Dog Park and a play area at the Duchess of Hamilton Park.
Community Empowerment Committee Convener, Councillor Angela Campbell, said: “We have boards across all local areas which meet and involve local people, elected members, council officers and partners.
“People living in their own communities know where they would like to see money invested and improvements made and are keen to get involved and have their voices heard.
“These projects make a real difference to the lives of local people, whether it’s helping to improve community safety or giving children a place to play. By listening to people in our community, we are making sure the money is spent where it is needed most.”
There are lots of other projects for Bellshill at the planning stage too. These include a play area project for Douglas Drive/Kirklee Road, community safety CCTV provision and pathway and parking improvements at Holytown Christ the King Primary School.
Plans for Motherwell will see play areas for Sannox Drive, Frood Street and New Stevenson, Newarthill/Glenburn Avenue parking and community safety CCTV.
By working with our local communities and partners, we can realise our ambition to make North Lanarkshire the place to Live, Learn, Work, Invest and Visit.
