Five North Lanarkshire schools have been named among the top 50 in Scotland, according to The Times's new primary school league tables.
The rankings are based on teacher assessments of pupil performance in reading, writing, numeracy, and listening-and-talking.
Schools are given a total score out of 400, with adjustments made to recognise the achievements of those in more disadvantaged areas.
Greenhill Primary in Coatbridge was the highest-ranked school in the area, placing fifth, followed closely by St Timothy’s Primary in Coatbridge in sixth. Whitelees Primary in Cumbernauld was ranked 14th, while Morningside Primary in Newmains came in at 23rd. Gartcosh Primary also made the top 50, finishing 48th.
Wishaw Academy was one of Scotland’s most improved schools, rising from 220 points last year to just 10 points short of a perfect score.
Councillor Michael McBride, convener of education, children and families at North Lanarkshire Council, praised the schools’ achievements.
“These results are a testament to the dedication of our teachers and the commitment of our young people," he said. "It’s fantastic to see North Lanarkshire schools recognised for their outstanding efforts in delivering high-quality education."
