Local children - who were involved in the design of the new play area - were invited to celebrate the official opening of this wonderful facility, which replaces the previous play area in the public park.

The Community Partnership Team developed the project, working closely with pupils from the two primary schools and representatives of Cleland Community Council.

The nature-themed facility includes junior and toddler climbing units incorporating two slides, a large set of varying swings, including a basket swing and a coco wave pendulum swing, and various game panels for children to play and learn.

New benches provide seating for adults and families to enjoy the park.

The £55,000 funding for the project came from the Local Development Programme, which the council’s Community Partnership Team manages.

Peter Lamb of Cleland Primary School won the ‘Design-a-Sign’ competition and officially opened the park.

The deputy leader of the council, Louise Roarty, local councillors Robert McKendrick and Cameron McManus, the Convenor of Planning, Nicky Shevlin, and the Convener of Communities, Geraldine Woods, also attended, along with representatives of Cleland Community Council.

The official opening took place in October 2024.
