We have set out plans to support economic growth over the next year.

The Economic Regeneration Delivery Plan Action Plan for 2024/25 sets out key actions to improve the area for residents and businesses by creating jobs, bringing investment to the area, regenerating town centres and building new homes.

The action plan sets out a number of actions that council will carry out in 2024/25 including:

  • build 268 new council homes and buy another 182 homes via developers and the Open Market and Empty Homes Purchase Schemes
  • finalise Town Action Plans for Bellshill, Kilsyth and Shotts and submit a plan to secure funding from the UK Government for Coatbridge town centre
  • carry out business and stakeholder engagement to progress regeneration plans for Cumbernauld town centre
  • submit a final stage funding application for the Rediscovering Airdrie project, which proposes to redevelop the library and town house and provide grants for shopfront improvements
  • invest at least £3 million of council funds in key business and investment sites, create 27,300 sq ft of work space and complete the regeneration of Braidhurst Industrial Estate in Motherwell
  • deliver NL Academies projects to provide skills and training in key sectors for the local economy - built environment, care and digital services
  • continue with the next phase of contract works to improve digital connectivity infrastructure for schools and public areas
  • progress Glasgow City Region City Deal projects including demolition of former business premises in Motherwell and procure and award contracts for ground works for the new road into Ravenscraig and start designs for the East Airdrie Link Road.

North Lanarkshire has a strong, growing economy which drives business and industry investment and in turn brings new jobs and opportunities,” said Councillor Alex McVey, Convener of the Enterprise and Fair Work Committee.

“Our Economic Regeneration Delivery Plan Action Plan shows how the council is using that economic growth to help build new homes, regenerate town centres, and improve the roads and transport network and digital connectivity for the benefit of all our residents and businesses.”

The 2024/25 Action Plan supports the North Lanarkshire Economic Regeneration Delivery Plan 2023-2028.
