Ambitious plans to create a new multi-million-pound community hub in Abronhill are making excellent progress and a detailed community consultation is now underway.
The Abronhill Community Hub aims to provide a thriving new heart to the Abronhill area, providing a wide range of community facilities under one roof.
It will provide a new home for St Lucy’s and Abronhill primary schools, a new community centre and a new library.
Other aspects to the building would include a partnership zone for public and voluntary groups to collaborate and provide essential services to local people.
Education facilities will also include a Family Learning Centre and a Language & Communication Support Centre.
Councillor Frank McNally, Convener of Education and Families, believes the plans will provide a major boost for the area.
He said: “The new Abronhill Community Hub will bring considerable benefits for primary pupils and the wider community.
“It’s part of our programme to replace all schools not replaced or remodelled since 1996. Our vision is to create hubs for the entire community rather than only the school community.
“It will provide first-class educational and community facilities serving the needs of the residents of the area.
“The consultation process is a key to the success of the project, and we would like to invite people to share their experiences and opinions of current facilities in the area along with their visions for the new community hub.”
Two events are planned in March:
- A Public Consultation event will take place online on Wednesday 9 March at 6.30pm.
- A drop-in event will take place at Abronhill Community Centre on Thursday 10 March between 3pm and 5pm to allow residents to come and speak with the designers of the hub.
