A new play park in North Motherwell with a Ravenscraig themed design has been officially opened.
Steelwork Park was named following a competition among local young people, who also came up with design ideas for the park itself and a sign at the entrance.
Our Community Partnership Team created the play park after being approached by young people who wanted the former Loaning play area on the site reinstated.
The park includes a multi-towered activity centre with climbing areas, slides, a rope walkway, multi seesaw, play panels, spinners, rockers and swings, and a separate toddler zone.
There is also a range of inclusive play equipment including a wheelchair roundabout, basket swing, seesaw, trampoline, play panels, a supportive springer and spinner bowls as well as accessible picnic tables and seating.
Councillor Kenneth Stevenson, Convener of the Communities Committee, was joined by the young people from Ladywell and St Bernadette’s Primary Schools, residents, a local nursery and elected members to official open the play park.
“Congratulations to everyone involved for their creative ideas and efforts to create this fantastic play area,” Councillor Stevenson said.
“It provides play equipment for all ages and is already proving very popular with nursery and school children and their parents.”
Patrick Donelly, one of the residents who worked with the council to create the play park, said: “Myself and the local residents are delighted to get access to a play area that is great for all ages and safe. The play area is close to most residents in the area and is always used every day. Thanks for all the help and support throughout this journey.”
