A brand-new heritage and countryside trail, designed to showcase North Lanarkshire's rich history through engaging stories and interactive experiences, is now open.

The North Lanarkshire Stories trail is set across 10 locations and has been developed to attract tourists and locals to explore the area.

It promises to become an exciting way for people to discover local tales about figures and events from different historical periods that have shaped the region's fascinating past.

Each location on the trail features a sign with a captivating story written by well-known storyteller Shona Cowie and illustrated by artist Johnathan Chamberlain.

Visitors will find a summary of the story, along with a QR code to access the full version in text or audio format.

The audio stories are narrated by Shona Cowie, offering an immersive storytelling experience for all ages.

Each site offers a rubbing tile of an animal featured in the story, making it a fun activity for families with children.

There is also an opportunity at each location, again by using a QR code, to access an interactive service which allows the user to ask questions of the main character from the story.

To mark the launch, a limited-edition book has been created. It features all 10 stories from the trail with accompanying illustrations and includes two bonus tales.

The first 100 visitors who can demonstrate that they have been to six of the trail's 10 locations will be eligible to apply for a free copy of the book.

Councillor Alex McVey, Convener of the Enterprise and Fair Work Committee said: "We're encouraging residents and visitors to our area to explore the trail sites, discover the stories, and enjoy a fresh perspective on North Lanarkshire's history.

"Whether you're a history enthusiast or just looking for a fun family day out, our new heritage and countryside trail offers something for everyone.

"The trail’s mix of storytelling, interactive elements, and stunning locations provides an engaging way to explore the area's past and present.

"Don't miss the chance to be among the first to experience this exciting new attraction and claim your free limited-edition book."

With its combination of historical storytelling, interactive features, and family-friendly activities, this new heritage and countryside trail promises to be a hit with tourists and locals.
