Pupils from Carnbroe and Sikeside primary schools put their creative talents to great effect by designing a stylish crest for their new school.
Riverbank Primary School was the name which was recently chosen by the community for the merger of the two Coatbridge schools, which will take place next year.
And now pupils have created a new badge for the school, which is set to open next summer.
Helen Paterson, Acting Head Teacher of Carnbroe and Sikeside primaries, said: “We ran a competition for pupils from both schools to come up with a design for the new crest and the response was incredible.
“We chose elements from three of the best entries, the typeface, the green and blue colours, which represent the parkland and water, and a tree in the centre.
“We then worked with colleagues from the council’s corporate communications section to produce the final version – which everyone agrees is really superb.”
Stefan (P7) of Sikeside Primary designed the typeface, while Shannon(P2/1) from Carnbroe Primary came up with the blue and green colours and Millie (P4/3) from Sikeside designed the tree.
The new crest will feature in and around the building and on school uniforms.
Councillor Kirsten Larson, Convener of Education, Children and Families, said: “The new crest really is excellent – it’s very stylish and eye-catching and I’m sure it will become a source of immense pride by everyone associated with the new school. It was great to meet some of the pupils who were involved in its design to find out about their ideas and congratulate them on their achievements.”
Meanwhile, last week, some lucky pupils from both schools got the chance to make a permanent mark on the new building when they signed some sections of the steelworks.
The new £24million building is part of the council’s drive to create new modern town and community hubs to benefit the entire community. It will be home to a primary school, an early learning facility and community facilities.
