People living between Motherwell and Ravenscraig will benefit from better connectivity thanks to the launch of a new bus service, as the new community at Ravenscraig tops 1,000 homes.
The No92 circular bus service is the result of a collaboration between the landowner, Ravenscraig Limited and North Lanarkshire Council. The service will be managed by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) on their behalf.
The route will give locals sustainable access to Motherwell Town Centre, Ravenscraig Sports Centre, The Craig, New College Lanarkshire and Motherwell Train Station which is scheduled to link with train timetables to and from Glasgow.
Russell Wilke, Director of Ravenscraig, said: “This is a significant milestone in the development of Ravenscraig. Our vision is to be a sustainable, mixed-use community, where people can live, work and play.
The bus route gives people living here an affordable, sustainable transport link to Motherwell and the rest of Scotland. It also makes traveling to Ravenscraig for education, employment and exercise so much easier.”
Gordon Dickson, Head of Bus Strategy & Delivery at SPT, said: “The introduction of the No92 circular bus service is the outcome of another successful collaboration between partners, and SPT is delighted to have assisted in this. The service enhances the accessibility and transportation options for residents, students and visitors connecting with the wider Ravenscraig area.”
Councillor Louise Roarty, Depute Leader of North Lanarkshire Council, said: "This news will be welcomed by residents and will bring real benefits to people who live and work in the area as well as providing them with new opportunities for more sustainable travel."
In October 2020, funding approval was granted for the £127m Ravenscraig Access Infrastructure project, which will see Ravenscraig connect north to the M8 and south to Motherwell and the M74.
The first phase of works, funded by North Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish and UK Governments through the Glasgow City Region City Deal, commenced in 2022 to install a new railway underbridge on the West Coast Mainline as part of an initial £16.9m investment.
The regeneration of Ravenscraig continues with the recent completion of creating access routes for a new commercial/industrial/logistics development for employers, SevenFourEight Ravenscraig. The £ 4.5 million investment aims to attract high-profile businesses to the ambitious development.
