The new Chryston Community Hub has been declared officially open by Provost Kenneth Duffy at a special event in front of pupils, parents, staff and guests.

The £22million state-of-the-art facility is home to Chryston Primary School and the new Community Health Clinic for NHS Lanarkshire, which replaced the Muirhead Clinic.

The school opened to pupils in October last year and it features 17 bright and spacious classrooms for up to 509 pupils and significantly benefits the wider community.

To mark the occasion Provost Duffy unveiled a plaque and highlighted the importance of the new facility for the local community. "The Chryston Community Hub represents a significant investment, and it will serve as a focal point for community activities, offering a place where people can come together, learn, and support one another.”

Pupils entertained the guests at the opening with musical performances and the choir sang an uplifting performance of ‘The Climb’.

Jilly Moffat, Head Teacher of Chryston Primary School, said: “We have been in our new home for around seven months and feel that we are very much settled in.

“We’ve experienced so many positive changes and all the wonderful facilities have provided our children with opportunities and experiences that have enriched their learning.

“This facility is proving a benefit to our children, parents, and the wider community. We have developed much stronger community partnerships with local groups and organisations.”

Riley, a pupil at the school, said: "One of our favourite places is the new multi-use games area, which we can use after school and at weekends.”

Martin Hill, Chairman, Lanarkshire, said: “The new Chryston Community Hub is very impressive and a testament to the close partnership between NHS Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire Council.

“The build standard and range of rooms across the community health centre and the school is excellent; it’s a great environment for staff, patients and pupils.

“I know the feedback from patients is very positive. The health centre was purpose built and enables us to house a far wider range of services than the old clinic to truly meet the needs of local people.”

The opening ceremony took place on Thursday 31 May 2024.
