The North Lanarkshire Children’s Panel is appealing for volunteers to step forward and use their listening skills and compassion to help transform the lives of young people across local communities.

Leading the appeal, Mark Hamill, Principal Democratic Officer explained, “Being part of the panel is so important in shaping the lives of vulnerable young people and can prove to be very rewarding for those who volunteer.

“You don’t have to have any specific knowledge or qualifications; we need people with a wide variety of knowledge and from different backgrounds who can bring their own viewpoints and experience to the panel and provide essential support and guidance to vulnerable youth.

“We need individuals who genuinely care about young people and their communities who have diverse life experiences that can connect with and positively impact the lives of those in need.

“Every decision made by panel members can have a lasting effect on a young person’s life. It can help put them on a positive pathway for the future and determine life-changing outcomes such as entering care or finding a secure and nurturing foster home.

“If you have excellent listening skills, the ability to assess evidence and putting people at ease, then we want to hear from you.”

Volunteers will receive a certificated training programme with a highly experienced team to support your development. If you are aged over 18 and want to make a real difference in your local community, then we would encourage you to apply now.

Applications are open now and close at midnight on 3 October 2023.
