Residents are being asked to give their views on new litter bins being installed across North Lanarkshire, as part of a strategy to improve street cleanliness and deliver a more efficient service.
The first phase of our new bin installation by has taken place across Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and villages in the Northern Corridor, and it is planned to continue across the rest of the area.
The new larger volume bins are located near public roads and in the busiest areas of towns and villages, and are emptied mechanically by bin lorries. While some smaller bins are being removed, the overall capacity will increase significantly across North Lanarkshire.
“We are already gathering data about how the new larger litter bins are being used but we also want to get feedback from residents,” said Councillor Helen Loughran, Convener of the Environment and and Place Committee.
“So, we are launching a consultation on the use of the new bins, including questions about the location, style, frequency of emptying and maintenance. The information we receive will inform a litter bin strategy that delivers a modern service that meets the aims of the national litter strategy, improves street cleanliness and contributes to our net zero carbon emissions target.”
The survey is available at www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/litter-bin-strategy-survey. There is a separate version for residents in Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and villages in the Northern Corridor where the new bins have been installed.
