Residents will no longer be charged overdue fines at North Lanarkshire libraries.

We have taken the decision to scrap overdue library penalties in another step to help residents during the cost of living crisis.

Fines across North Lanarkshire libraries were paused in March 2020 and throughout the pandemic. These fees have now been officially removed.

North Lanarkshire Council join a number of libraries across the country, who have also removed late fines.

Russell Brown, Community Libraries Manager at North Lanarkshire Council, said: ‘The fear of incurring charges can be a barrier to joining the library so we hope with this change, we can encourage more residents to join.’

Charges will remain in place for lost or damaged books. More information can be found at www.culturenl.co.uk/library-charges
