Our latest council house project at Berwick Street, Coatbridge, is now complete, providing high-standard, modern, affordable homes for our tenants.
It’s the latest project completed as part of our ambitious new supply programme which aims to deliver 5,000 new homes by 2035.
Nineteen new properties are now homes for our tenants and include a mix of 2 x 2 bedroom houses; 2 x 3 bedroom houses; 4 x 2 bedroom Cottage Flats; 8 x 1 Bedroom Cottage Flats; 1 x 3 Bedroom Wheelchair Bungalow; 1 x 2 Bedroom Wheelchair Bungalow and 1 x 4 Bedroom Wheelchair House.
Brooks Drive tenant, Amanda O’Neil is delighted with her new home and as it’s a wheelchair standard home it’s perfect for her family’s needs. She said: “My son uses a wheelchair and this new house has really improved his overall quality of life. Having an adapted wet room for showering, level access throughout the home and a flat garden that he can access makes such a difference."
All our new homes are designed to Housing for Varying Needs standards, meaning they are adaptable to suit different tenants’ needs and are Secured by Design accredited. We’re also embracing renewable technologies and building greener. The properties in this development are highly energy efficient and the site also includes a dual electric vehicle charging pillar for residents.
Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake said: “I’m delighted to see another successful housing development complete. Our housing investment is transforming communities and town centres, providing jobs and boosting the local economy. We’ve delivered 1,351 new homes for tenants and construction is underway on 9 sites across the North Lanarkshire area.
“To hear first-hand from our tenants about the benefits our housing is delivering to their everyday lives is really pleasing. From helping tackle fuel poverty with our energy efficiency measures to making our homes more accessible and able to adapt to suit tenants and their families, we are building homes for the future. We are committed to rolling out our ambitious housing plans to benefit more people across the area and to make North Lanarkshire the place to live.”
Attending the completion event were Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake, who was joined by local members Councillors Tracy Carragher and Geraldine Woods. Representatives from North Lanarkshire Council and Cruden were also in attendance.

The contract, delivered by Cruden, is valued at £4.1m and supported by £1.64m of Scottish Government grant funding.
