It’s Volunteers week and we’re highlighting the outstanding contribution of people in North Lanarkshire who give up their time to help others.
Rik Ellis volunteers as a Friend of Summerlee Museum in Coatbridge, where he puts his practical skills to good use.
What prompted you to join Volunteer NL?
As a proud resident of North Lanarkshire, I wanted to give something back to the community. Volunteering was the perfect opportunity to contribute to the place I call home.
What do you enjoy most when carrying out your role?
I enjoy the "mechanical" aspects of the work, especially problem-solving. It's fulfilling to lend a hand and be an active part of the team, making a tangible difference.
What skills or knowledge have you gathered from volunteering?
Volunteering has allowed me to continue sharing my work-life knowledge, skills, and experience. It’s a rewarding way to stay engaged and contribute to the community.
