Education Scotland has given St Mary’s Primary School and Nursery Class in Cleland a positive report, praising its pupils' confidence, friendliness, and enthusiasm.

Inspectors were impressed with how polite and articulate the children are and how much they love their school.

Overall, the school received four ‘good’ ratings across key areas, and inspectors are confident it will continue to go from strength to strength.

Francis McIntyre, Head Teacher of St Mary's Primary & Nursery Class, said: “We are very proud of the positive feedback from HMI in our recent inspection report.

“I am grateful for the staff, past and present, who have, over several years, created and maintained a highly welcoming and nurturing ethos within St Mary’s.

“It was pleasing that the inspection team recognised that relationships between all staff and children and among children are warm, caring and respectful.

“We are so proud of the pupils at St Mary’s and are so pleased that the inspection team noted that their behaviour and effort contribute to the calm, purposeful learning environment here.

“We remain committed to continuous improvement within the school and nursery.”

The inspectors highlighted the strong relationships between staff, pupils, and the local community, creating a warm and supportive environment where children feel happy and eager to learn.

A big positive from the report was the school’s focus on writing, which has helped pupils become confident and engaged writers.

“A huge well done to all the staff and pupils at St Mary’s,” said Councillor Michael McBride, Convener of Education, Children and Families. “The entire school community should be extremely proud of this report, which underlines how much everyone is focused on providing children with the very best start in their lives.”

The inspectors also made suggestions on how the school can become even better. They recommended ensuring extra funding reaches the pupils who need it most and that the school continues to develop high-quality learning, teaching and assessment to help all children achieve their best.

In the nursery, they suggested involving children more in planning their learning to ensure a well-rounded experience.
