Pupils, parents and staff at Golfhill Primary School in Airdrie were celebrating after their school received a highly positive inspection report.

School inspectors praised the ways in which all staff work well together to develop a positive, nurturing culture where respectful relationships provide an encouraging environment for all. They found that 'children are very proud of their school', whose motto is ‘Reach for the stars’.

It went on to note that: ‘Throughout the school, they are polite to adults, peers, and visitors.

'They are keen to talk about their learning and speak positively about the support they receive from all adults in school. The supportive, caring ethos results in a calm, inclusive and purposeful learning environment.’

Golfhill Primary is a non-denominational, co-educational school with a present school role of 146 pupils between the ages of 5 to 12 years

In October 2023, a team of inspectors from Education Scotland visited the school, where they talked to parents/carers and children and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.

Gail Gallen, Head Teacher of Golfhill Primary School, welcomed the report’s findings, saying: “In my view, the report is certainly a true reflection of Team Golfhill and I am delighted that the inspection reflects the school as being a warm, welcoming and nurturing place to learn.

“Children at Golfhill feel valued and included. As a result, children and adults care for one another and are respectful and kind.

“The report also reflects that all staff know children and families well. It has been recognised that the management team have created strong team working. This is an important strength of the school.

“It has also been noted that staff have established successful approaches to supporting children with additional support needs.”

The report noted the following key strengths of the school:

  • Senior leaders lead all staff well to create a welcoming, nurturing place to learn. As a result, children and adults care for one another and are respectful and kind. Children feel valued and included.
  • All staff know children and families well. They are improving all children’s wellbeing in partnership with parents and the wider community.
  • Staff have established successful approaches to supporting children with additional support needs. They work well with families to ensure children engage well with learning.

Councillor Angela Campbell, Convener of Education, Children and Families, said: “I’d like to congratulate everyone at Golfhill Primary School on their highly positive inspection report.

“It really does reflect the hard work and commitment of the entire school community on providing pupils with the very best start and everyone should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
