Footballers from local schools having been showing off their skills at a girls football festival held at Braidhurst High School.
Aimed at boosting female participation in the game, the event was organised by Active Schools, Sports Development and staff at the High School with over 350 pupils taking part.
The P6 and P7 players took part in a festival format of games whilst being refereed by senior former School of Football pupils. Current Girls’ School of Football pupils were also on hand to talk to everyone about how they find the school and how much its helped them develop as a person and player.
Scott Currie, Football Development Officer with North Lanarkshire Council said: “The girls’ game has really come on in recent years, with more and more players taking part and attracting bigger crowds of spectators year on year.
“Here in North Lanarkshire, we want to give as many players as possible the opportunity to develop their talents and reach their goals in the game. This year we already have a record number of young people signed-up for our Girls’ School of Football at Braidhurst and we still have places available.
“If your child is keen on progressing their football career, is currently in P7 and due to start high school after the summer, applications are open until Friday 3 March.”
