Huge congratulations to Stuart Naismith who was named Primary Science Teacher (PSTT) of the year at the prestigious Primary Science Teaching Trust awards.

The Gartcosh Primary School teacher picked up his award at the PSTT Conference in June 2023.

The awards recognise the exceptional efforts of teachers who make a difference to children’s learning and enjoyment of science and the support these teachers provide to colleagues.

Stuart said: “It’s been an amazing experience receiving the award and becoming a Fellow of the PSTT College. Like most primary teachers, my background isn’t in science but it’s where I’ve found my passion, so to achieve this has been an incredible experience.”

He was one of 11 recipients of the 2022 awards and one of only two teachers in Scotland.

During the covid lockdowns, Stuart created his popular and engaging YouTube channel ‘STEM with Mr N’ where he demonstrates STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) activities using low-cost, easily accessible materials to engage pupils in these subjects, while also assisting teachers and parents looking to provide hands-on STEM to their children and young people.

This resource has recently been shortlisted for the annual Teach Primary Awards 2023.

In addition, Stuart has been chosen as one of the UK delegates to appear at the upcoming Science on Stage Festival, which will take place in Finland in August 2024, showcasing his after-school Astrobiology club.

He also sits on the Board of Directors and Trustees for the Scottish Schools Education Research Centre (SSERC) from August 2023.
