Provost Kenneth Duffy presented the cheque on behalf of North and South Lanarkshire Councils’ Suicide Prevention campaigns.

Provost Duffy said: “The tournament not only raised funds but also shone a spotlight on the importance of suicide prevention and bereavement support, demonstrating the power of community action in addressing urgent mental health issues.

“We are proud to donate these funds to Cruse Scotland, whose work provides a lifeline to those experiencing grief. The support and generosity of the participating teams have been incredible, and we look forward to continuing this initiative next year to raise awareness and tackle suicide in our communities.

“We will all face a bereavement at some point in our lives - many of us can cope with the support of family and friends, but for others, grief can be so devastating, it can cost lives. Our Free Bereavement Helpline is often called a ‘lifeline’ by those so shattered by the death of a loved one, that they are unable to imagine a future without them.”

“This kind donation is enough for us to train three Helpline volunteers. Each volunteer will support up to 200 individuals annually, offering hope and care to those struggling with grief. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this life saving gift.”
