A special flag has been raised outside the council headquarters ahead of Armed Forces Day.
Provost Jean Jones was joined by Lord Lieutenant Lady Susan Haughey, Council Chief Executive Des Murray and Armed Forces Champion Councillor David Cullen in raising the flag outside the Civic Centre in Motherwell on Monday 21 June.
Armed Forces Day gives the public the opportunity to recognise the contribution made on behalf of the nation by the men and women currently serving as troops, veterans and cadets.
Provost Jones said: “Each year in North Lanarkshire we raise a special flag in support of our Forces personnel – past and present - and to recognise the sacrifices they make for their country.
“They provide safety and security and we are proud to acknowledge their vital contribution and show our support for the sacrifices they continue to make for their country.”
“Unfortunately, because of the ongoing coronavirus restrictions, we can’t have the larger ceremony we like to have on these occasions when we usually have veterans, members of the public and representatives from the Forces and emergency services present."
Councillor David Cullen added: “Armed Forces Day gives us the chance to show our appreciation for the selfless sacrifice and dedication given by our service personnel both past and present for their country.
“The health pandemic has proven challenging for everyone, and of course our Armed Forces have once again came to the fore by helping support efforts reduce the spread of the virus, set-up and manage testing sites, hospital facilities and provide expert support to help the nationwide effort to administer the vaccine.
This occasion is marked across the country and we are pleased to play our part here in North Lanarkshire.”
